Education System in Venezuela - An Overview

Venezuela, officially referred to as the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela, is located on the northern coast of North America is a country rich in biodiversity.  It has the Andes Mountains to the west, the Amazon Basin Rainforest to the south, Orinoco River Delta to its east and Ilanos delta to its centre.

Venezuela has a typical tropical climate throughout the year. Because of it topographical and geographical variations Venezuela experiences heavy rain falls in some regions and the temperatures range between hot and humid in the coastal regions to very cool temperature in the highlands and mountainous regions of the country. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold and dry.

The Education System of Venezuela is regulated by the Venezuelan Ministry of Education. The government has made 9 years of education mandatory for its people and in 2010 it ranked 59th out of 128 countries in the UNESCO’s Education for all Development program.  The academic session usually starts from September and lasts until June-July. 

The Bolivarian Revolution has launched a number of programs or missions focusing on all types of education, including Mission Robinson (for primary education and literacy), Mission Ribas for secondary education and Mission Sucre for higher education.
